Home schweeeeeet home
I made it back from Christmas BC in one piece. While I do appreciate your supplying BC style weather here to cushion the transition, it was hardly necessary. This trip has once again reinforced how much I prefer living in Toronto over living in Vancouver. I apologize to all the people I spoke to in BC over this past week because I wasn't shy about saying so. ;)
The suitcase has been emptied and the laundry is done. I did wake up at noon which is a sensible 9am in BC.
I hope everyone had a great Christmas and I look forward to seeing everyone in 2006!

Finally
I've *finally* seen some changes on the webcam shot of my livingroom. I guess the cat sitter is actually showing up.

BC Sunrise, sorta
I got up early enough but couldn't find a good vantage point to view the sunrise so this is as good as the pics got this morning.

Christmas in BC
It's cloudy and rainy and windy here. I'm installed at my dad's place. I spent an hour last night hooking up my wireless networking access point so I could feel at home. So far today my dad and his wife have been out doing errands and I've been mostly dozing on the couch. I'm feeling so listless it's unreal. I think the problem is that they drink decaffeinated coffee here. OK, I'm going to head out and find some real coffee...

Heat update
What I was worried would happen has happened. Now that my radiators are working, it's too hot in here. It's currently at 25 degrees. The plumber showed me where the tap on the radiator is so I have been experimenting with adjusting the heat. This is reminding me of the overwhelming heat in the basement suite where I used to live. At least the radiator is nice and quiet, unlike the furnace there.

Yes, another test
OK, this is interesting. I'm tying this blog entry using my wireless keyboard into my blog website using the browser built into my Palm TX using the wifi connection. So far doing the changeover from my old pda has not being going smoothly. I don't think they really spent enough time troubleshooting this thing before they started selling it. It keeps crashing. Boo hoo. Merry Christmas. Bah humbug.

Heat!
This radiator is now working. Can't you just see the heat flowing out of this thing?

Xmas present
When you get your Christmas bonus and are trying to decide what to get me, this should be on the top of the list: PDA from heaven.

Cat's meow
When one of my cats meows the sound doesn't seem to match up with her mouth movement. I'm fairly sure it's because she's being dubbed over from the original Japanese. It's a little disconcerting because who knows what she's *really* saying.

Amazing
Mine must be an important riding this time around. (We're in the midst of a Federal Election campaign in Canada for those that don't live near by. Yes, during Christmas. Don't ask.) I've had two of the candidates who're running actually knock on my apartment door and introduce themselves. During the last election campaign I don't think I even got brochures from everybody. We'll see if the other people pay a visit yet too.

Strangers
I was watching people stream out of a subway car the other day and I didn't recognize anyone. Everyone was a complete stranger. This isn't surprising for a subway in a city of millions where everyone goes about their lives on their own erratic schedules; most trips are spent traveling with strangers. What had really occurred to me was how quickly any one of those unknown faces could become a known face. On any given day one of those strangers could start to become a friend. A lover. A rival. All it might take is an offhand comment which sparks a conversation. A smile for holding open a door. Just like that, a face could have a story attached. In a city full of strangers there is now someone else I know.
I'm amazed at how that works. Someone who a short time ago was unknown is now a person I know. Regardless of what becomes of the relationship that can't be taken away. Someone who at one time my eyes would just slide over now instinctively catch: I know you. I've met a lot of people in the past few years. Some have become friends, a few more than friends, most neither. A lot of them I would know as they stepped off the subway. And yet a very short time ago they were all strangers.

Aeon Flux
I'm glad I went to see Aeon Flux before I read the reviews. It wasn't nearly as bad as they said.

Cat fish
This is both the most logical and creepiest cat food flavour ever.
