Observation
I've been noticing that cats don't have eyelids ... the top of their head moves up and down when the open and close their eyes. Someone should sponsor a study of this.

Cats have three eyelids. The third eyelid is called a haw or nictating membrane. It's the tiny triangle of white or pink tissue that can be seen in the the corner of a cat's eye.

okay. alright. cats don't have eyelids, i was pulling your leg. what they have are little chintz curtains, linked to a small button under their paw (generally the right paw).
put your ear close to the cat's head and you might hear a faint motorized sound.
